My sister, my mother, and I are doing our Christmas baking today (also the reason why I'm up & posting on a Sunday at 7:30... *sighs* *yawns* *sips hot chocolate*), which reminded me that a couple of years ago I scanned and translated some of our traditional recipes. It's been a while, so I thought I'd link them again, in case anyone is interested...

Aaand...the last two recipes, after which [livejournal.com profile] solitary_summer will watch Merlin and BSG and generally have a very lazy Sunday, and this journal will relapse into its regularly scheduled rambly aim- and pointlessness.

6. Orangenzungen

['Orange-tongues'. We got the recipe out of a newspaper ages ago, and it was one of those everyone liked so much that we stuck with it since, unlike every gingerbread recipe ever.]

7. Schokoladetrüffel

[Chocolate truffles, although they are truffles only in the way the Greek almond cake is Greek. We still love them.]

5. Griechischer Mandelkuchen

[Translates as 'Greek almond cake', but I rather doubt the recipe is actually even remotely Greek. On the other hand, unlike all the other recipes I've posted I haven't seen this, or a version of it, anywhere else so far, so if this looks familiar, let me know...]

Christmas baking update! [personal profile] busarewski was brave and tried the Vanillekipferln and hasn't defriended me yet they look wonderful!

Last weekend's Merlin kind of depressed me. In retrospect it's clear that the elusive mood and occasional moments of grace that the second half of S1 sometimes achieved couldn't be maintained for any length of time, and change was inevitable, but I miss the innocence. I miss the four of them being friends. Hearing the dragon bring up again the destined future Merlin and Arthur are supposed to share, and then ... )

And another recipe to make up for yesterday, but I forgot the cook-book at my parents and was too tired to go back.

3. Schokoladeschnitten

[Chocolate squares. These are fast and easy to make, no fancy Kipferl rolling, but very yummy. They also should look a bit prettier, but we were all tired and a little rushed this year, and didn't sprinkle the batter with enough ground walnuts and forgot the sugar entirely.]

2. Vanillekipferln

[The traditional Austrian Christmas cookies. These, though, are the best Vanillekipferln ever. Says everyone. *g*]

Since all I've been doing recently is—I was going to say wank, but in comparison to that 400+ pages pdf, and thank God I had the sense not to sign my name to the CiN donation, also, wow, do they suddenly make me feel less crazy and obsessed about those 9000+ words of Jack/Ianto meta ... er, where was I? well, maybe not so much 'wank', as faintly whine with a light dose or irony, about TW fandom, and if not that, ramble about various TV shows, I decided I'd do something productive for once and take the camera along for Christmas baking and post one of our traditional recipes per day.

1. Linzer Augen

[Not really translatable; shortcrust cookies filled with apricot jam. Not one of my grandmother's recipes, but one of the first my sister and I added to the list.]
