I only have to show up at work at noon tomorrow, which is why I'm still here, up at past 2 am, procrastinating, sipping tea with orange & rum...

Felt sick today, tired, stressed and annoyed enough to decide not to be polite this year, but ditch the company Christmas party. If they show as little consideration as to schedule it on the 23rd, it's not exactly my problem if no one turns up.

And this is slashy... why? )

[:: headdesk :: It's glaringly obvious really that I got 1. no life & 2. a lot of ex-academic brain capacity doing the hamster-in-the-wheel thing.... Decided to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] 50bookchallenge next year, so that at least I maybe won't analyse crappy tv shows to death...]

ETA: :: exasperated sigh :: Here I am, trying to keep my mind out of the slashy gutter at least for the greater part of this post and then KHC puts this on his website.

Guilt dreams. Still feeling sick. Blah.

Consumerism gets at all of us... Or how else should I explain that the prospect of a DVD player makes me seriously consider buying the LotR DVDs despite the fact that so far I've rather emphatically disliked the movies? But everyone is saying how much of an improvement the uncut versions are... :: sigh :: I'm a media junkie.

On a totally random, early-morning-bitchy note, what never fails to annoy me is when people put '(sp?)' in a published text of any sort, unless they mean to indicate they couldn't care less about the subject/person/etc. in question. I realise not everyone, especially if they're native speakers can be as anal about spell-checking as I am, but on the other hand, why should I spend time reading something, when they couldn't be bothered to take what little time is necessary to check a dictionary site, or at least google a word/name, if nothing else?

This said, I love Google for quick spell-checking and grammar-editing purposes; especially whenever I'm uncertain about a phrase, usage of preposition etc, I " "- google and if I get 10 pages of results, preferable some semi-official ones at the top of the list, it's all good...

One of those days you think will never end, and not in a good way. Still vaguely sick, and there's a sore spot in the back of my mouth (too many tangerines?) that makes talking rather painful... Problem is, with 300+ customers a day talking isn't something you can altogether avoid. The H**********s seem to be somewhat annoyed that no one from our shop comes to the Christmas party, but right now I'm too exhausted and sick to care. I've attended all Christmas parties & company outings ever since I started working there, I'm allowed to be anti-social, too, just this once.

... I can't believe I'm actually listening to 'Beauty and the Beast'.
