30 Days of Torchwood: Day 19: Favourite Outfit

This clearly needs pictures. Also, I decided to pick one favourite outfit for every character. Well, except Owen. (Once again, sorry, Owen!) But the only outfit I even remembered is the lab coat with the buttons, and I can't really say it was a favourite.

Jack:

All right, I love the coat. Of course I love the coat. (Actually, I want that coat.) Everyone loves the coat. The coat is such a no-brainer that I refuse to pick it as an answer. This is about my favourite use of an outfit instead. I think it's a quite brilliant choice, because it not just gives the scene a more intimate, slightly sexual feel, even though it isn't overtly sexual at all, but also gives Jack an almost vulnerable air, especially after the nightmare he just had, because Jack uses his clothes as an armour just as much as Ianto does.

Gwen:

I actually like Gwen's outfits in S1, before they became so smart and stylish. And I really love this colour on her; it suits her complexion and the colour of her hair really well. (Also, cleavage.) Pity the scene doesn't cap very well.

Ianto:

Easy. This was the best shirt, hands down. The violet one in Captain Jack Harkness isn't bad either, but this is a colour that really suits him. It's a pity that Ianto's shirts were so often chosen to match Jack's shades of blue, because anything in the violet to red spectrum suits him so much better. I love the contrast between the blue and red in this scene, and the slight informality, Jack's rolled up sleeves and Ianto for once without a vest or jacket.

Toshiko:

I'd actually almost have chosen the bedspread from Greeks Bearing Gifts. Even if she's angry and embarrassed in that scene, the way she walks out, trailing the deep red bedspread behind her... there's something almost regal about it. It's beautiful. It's such a brief scene, though, and it doesn't cap well at all, so I'm picking the dress and coat from Captain Jack Harkness instead.

I liked the red shirt too. I thought the red shirt was a sign that Ianto was feeling happier. He stuck with the suits from the first series, but they became less bland as he felt more confident.

I've actually been vaguely wondering if the put Ianto in more colourful shirts when he was more active in an episode. Or maybe it does have something to do with how he interacts with Jack? Because one thing I've noticed, in CoE from the moment they change into the clothes Ianto bought them, Jack and Ianto are completely matched, right down to the colours of Ianto's tie.

As for Owen, I just watched the one with the pilot from the past he falls in love with (god, I must have Alzheimers, I literally watched that half an hour ago and already forgot the title) - anyway, the grey long-sleeved t-shirt he wears when he goes home with her for the first time, I think that looks pretty good on him. Just sayin.

I probably would have found something if I rewatched some of the episodes, but I really was too lazy. I don't know why, but for some reason Owen doesn't bleep my 'people I find attractive' radar. Objectively I realise he isn't unattractive, but he just doesn't register, somehow.

See, it's that way for me with Toshiko. She's pretty, sure, but she's just - blah. On the other hand, I do have a little thing for Owen, I must confess. Can't help it.

Anyway, now I'm rewatching the whole thing, I always have your meme in the back of my mind. So, I was thinking, what I love most about Jack's outfit (except for the coat, of course, everyone loves the coat) is the watch chain. I just love watch chains, and it suits him exceptionally well. Of course, everything suits Jack. Still.

Also, Ianto? That vest&shirt-no-jacket-look he does in "Meat" is mighty fine. Which is good, because it distracts from the fact that Owen is wearing the most hideous shirt ever...
