so richard chamberlain finally comes out, to (presumably) no one's surprise. (if memory serves me, the rumours made it even to the celebrity magazines i used to buy for my grandmother well back in the 80ies....) while of course it's everyone's private business how they handle their sexuality, it *does* reflect rather sadly on the hollywood closet system that practically no one, if at all, chooses to come out before it effectively doesn't really matter anymore one way or the other.

people argued i was wrong when i said ian mckellen wouldn't get the supporting oscar for lotr just on principle, because that'd be hollywood pointing the finger at itself and rather embarrassing to a quite a lot of people, and i'm still waiting to be proven wrong. (though to be perfectly honest i haven't noticed any particularily oscar worthy acting from him or anyone else in either of the lotr movies, but that's just my snarky self.)
