I'm glad that you included the homophobia issue in your essay because it gave me a chance to get my thoughts off of my chest! I don't have an LJ account, and there really aren't a lot of places to talk about this stuff. After I posted and re-read my reply, though, it sounded shallow compared to all of the thought that went into what you said. Still, it was nagging at me, and other folks had already commented on your other points.
Maybe it was story-telling vs. politics? I'm not clear that RTD explicitly considers glbt political implications, so maybe it was just careless (as in "unstudied" not as in "negligent"). Unless RTD really wanted to make the point that you brought up, though -- and I have to say, the possibility made me feel somewhat better -- he really could have told the CoE story without hurting that part of the Torchwood world. Ah well...
