Two days of family Christmas over & survived, presents exchanged, three more completely free and lazy days to go. Ha.

It's kind of funny (or maybe not), my (four years younger) sister tends to get the useful household stuff from my parents (gazillion pieces cutlery set this year), I get things like the new Doctor Who DVDs. Maturity and grown-up-ness ahoy. Clearly. Also got a box of chocolates from Altmann & Kühne, which I've wanted and whined about for years, but so far my mother has always balked at the cost - not because of the cost as such, rather the money vs. what you get for it ratio -, so I really love her for having remembered & now I've got this tiny cute nostalgic box with three drawers filled with very tiny chocolates, which is completely adorable, and also delicious.

Came home, watched Ice Age 2 on TV (kind of cute, but much less so than the original), and then channel surfed into Victor/Victoria which I hadn't seen in a long time and enjoyed rewatching until I realised that he does in fact know for certain she's a woman before he kisses her, which I'd somehow managed to miss before, at which point I pretty much lost interest, because it makes the movie kind of safe and boring. I liked my version better. Julie Andrews is still fabulous, though.

I like your version better, too. I've never been crazy about the Pink Panther-ish private detective, but he wasn't that big an annoyance. But King knowing Victoria really was Victoria--yeah, that's a bummer, and I felt, a cop-out.

It really is. And I do feel a bit stupid now, because I still have the memory of loving the film for the 'I don't care if you're a man' moment, which I thought was sexy and romantic and seemed really daring for a movie of that period - which, in retrospect, should of course have tipped me off...

Hah, same thing happened to me! About Victor or Victoria, I mean. You're right, it takes some of the spark out of it. It's still a pretty adorable film though, and last time I saw it I rationalized that it also took a lot of guts for him to pretend to be sleeping with a man.

There's always that, but it still does change the dynamics/balance of the whole relationship quite a bit... OTOH I read on imdb that originally he wasn't supposed to know, but early 80ies and all that, so I'm sticking to my version. :)

It was nice and peaceful, which is all I'm asking from family Christmases... ;)
