Merlin 1.13 — Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood after a day with a gazillion Vanillekipferln, but to be perfectly honest, this episode didn't work for me very well. A few lovely moments (Gwen and Morgana, Gwen and Arthur, Arthur and Merlin when Merlin says good-bye, Uther and Arthur), but entirely too many (near-)deaths and resurrections and noble self-sacrifices for one episode, and all a bit over-dramatic, with a rather odd pacing. Meh.

Still, though, interesting premise for next season...

I thought the episode served well as a season finale, and I really like that Gaius was getting screentime being more than just exposition. His character deserves to be fleshed out more. But yeah it's definitely rushed. One of complaints I often have with SV (heh, can't help the SV comparisons) is how I've always thought they should have two-parters more. And I'm not too happy with the absolute lack of Morgana actively doing anything. Heck, at the very least she should have another scene with Arthur.

I had the same issue with the Torchwood S2 finale, which definitely should have been a two-parter, because it was so action-driven and rushed and one big dramatic moment after the other that watching it the first time it left you literally breathless, but could have been so much more emotionally effective if the story had been told a bit slower and in more detail.

I wonder what will happen with Morgana's character in S2? She seems to be a lot more aware of the reality of her prophetic dreams than she was before...

I do think that Merlin & Gaius should tell her soon, what they know of her being a Seer. It's definitely one of those situations where ignorance of a secret is just as dangerous as knowing one, if not more. I can totally understand their reasons for not telling her, but considering the way the visions are just keep getting worse and intense each time -- it's doing Morgana harm already by not knowing why. And she was *just* barely keeping it together in this episode.
