Interesting article about eating disorders and the current obsession with body-weight...

Obviously I can't prove or disprove either interpretation of the quoted health statistics, but the psychological/sociological explanation makes a lot of sense to me.

For upper-class Americans in particular, it's easier to deal with anxiety about excessive consumption by obsessing about weight, rather than by actually confronting far more serious threats to our social and political health.


It's insane, really. When I look at nude pictures from the turn of the 19th/20th century, the women have the same type of body I have, and they were considered beautiful.
