Hallelujah. Or something. We managed to organise my father's birthday in a way that was generally satisfactory and didn't end in crises or breakdowns of any sort. He really liked the fondue set we got him (and tried out for lunch), and the Apfeltorte I made was rather good, too. (Though I really prefer making the chocolate-y cream-y cakes - speaking of which, I bought this really decadent cakes & sweets cookbook from work, which has a wide variety of traditional, but less well-known, and just decadently unhealthy recipes back from the times of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. If it's as good as it promises to be it'll supply inspiration for birthday cakes for years to come. Can't wait to try it, except for the slight problem of all the excess calories.)
