Now I haven't read any of Ann Rice's more recent novels, but God, the woman has delusions of grandeur. We're not talking nobel prize material here, after all.
It is vaguely satisfying though, that apparently I wasn't too far off with my assesment, even without being aware of the exact reason for the decline in quality.

Date: 2003-09-27 02:12 am (UTC)It's rather tell-tale that almost every lj comment I read on her having decided to work without an editor after 'Queen of the Damned' has been a version of 'well, that explains a lot'. This kind of over-confidence without the actual talent to back it up is somewhat embarrassing...

Date: 2003-09-26 01:35 pm (UTC)That's what I like about Stephen King. He know what he does, he knows his limitations, and he's not efraid to say so. I thought parts of "On writing" were short from brilliant. I didn't agree with all of it, of course, but at least the guy has some modesty and common sense, qualities that Mrs. Rice seems to have lost somewhere along the way.
