I usually tend to be sarcastic rather than sympathising when men whine about how they feel their masculinity is threatened today by some mostly imagined female predominance. On a pop-culture level I rather appreciate the off-hand feminist tendencies like the explicit feminist turn BtVS took towards the end. Whereas from an intellectual perspective I may be wondering whether simply taking over masculine patterns of behaviour is really such a good thing, from a gut feeling I enjoy watching a female heroine who can kick the shit out of her opponents as much as the next woman; it's certainly infinitely preferable to the old damsel-in-distress routine.
Watching Pink's 'Trouble' video, though... I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say it left me with a bad feeling, but in this case I kind of could understand where the male apprehension comes from. Usually I'd say that most gender related behaviour stereotypes are still too firmly fixed in real life (in literary deadly serious ways, when it comes to violence) for their reversal in art to be threatening rather than merely thought-provoking. Still... it's probably interpreting too much into a mediocre pop video, but I found myself frowning at the screen half-wondering how I'd feel if genders were reversed here.
In other news, I'm going to see LotR:RotK today. From what I've been hearing it has managed to hook people indifferent before, but I also heard it suffers from much the same weaknesses as the previous parts (rushed, character development lost between the cut scenes etc.)... We'll see.
