Not really. Buffy began to air at a time when I was still watching shows on (Austrian) TV, that is, anything from a year to a lot longer after they originally aired. I do realise there were/are ship wars, but it's not quite the same as suddenly finding yourself in the middle of it all...
Torchwood S2 actually was when I started downloading episodes and following fandom in real time, although sometimes I'm still not so sure I'm actually part of it...
