Aaand... the cake in question:

I stupidly asked my sister what she thought my niece would like, and after a while she came up with the idea of a cake like a train. Five hours, one minor break-down when I had the finished cake, but no idea whatsoever how to turn it into a train, a lot of inept cutting and improvising with chocolate glaze, and then I liked it for maybe 2.5 minutes, simply because of, oh, train! it actually looks like a train!, before starting to hate it again because it was so completely cakewreck-y. Good thing the niece is only three and has no standards when it comes to birthday cakes.

That's not cakewrecky! Nice use of chocolate digestives there. And that bulbous thing with the cream in on the front that the Dutch call a Negrokiss, which I'm sure has a far less offensive name in English that escapes me right now.

Thanks! :)

I've no idea what it's called in English either—it's 'Schwedenbombe' in German, or maybe more precisely in Austrian-German, because I think they're called something different again in Germany...

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's really very cute! (And I'm sure it was delicious.)

It was just an average Marmorkuchen from a recipe my sister gave me; I don't think the niece even ate any of it, just the 'chimney' (first thing to go) and the passengers.

The main problem was that the chocolate glaze dried much too fast...

Dear, the cake is perfect! Wow!

Eh, there's a reason I didn't post a close(r)-up picture. *g*

But I guess I really need to get my perfectionist streak under control... Thank you. :)
