Here via [livejournal.com profile] selenak. With you all the way - I think you've managed to articulate what I've been thinking and have failed to put into words. I do think Ianto's death was narratively necessary - but it moved me and saddened me. The two are not incompatible. CoE was a remarkable piece of television; in a way I reckon it's a pity that in fandom at least the reaction to Ianto's death (and the feeling that, for some at least, it was in some way a "betrayal") has overshadowed the way TW went from being a BBC3 DW spinoff to a six-million viewer BB1 phenomenon.
