TR cut his hair? When did that happen?

Well, I guess I'm officially an ex-fangirl now...

Speaking of which (sort of), can anyone help me out with some music recommendations? I'm a little at a loss since I grew out of my depression & belated wannabe gothic phase. I've been mostly listening to older stuff recently, pop, musicals, and some of the 'newer' usual suspects like tool and apc, but I'm getting slightly bored... What I'm looking for is something with intelligence (and dare I uses the dreaded word maturity?) and a certain kind of emotional rawness/honesty, nin levels of depression definitely not required; any genre, can be classical music, which I've been tentatively foraying into occasionally, but not quite knowing where to begin or where to go.

Thanks!

My music taste is far too embarassing, I'm afraid I can't help you. Nevertheless, I will tell you what I am listening to now, because I do think it's very beautiful: Wim Mertens, "Integer Valor". Some reviewers label it as New Age and say it gives them headaches. Some others say it's minimalism and a work of genius. Go figure. I like it.

I wish I could help with music, but I mostly listen to the same things over and over... Dar Williams, Suzanne Vega, Indigo Girls and other folky female singers.

Well, I don't know any of them, except for a few Suzanne Vega songs, so I'll check them out. It's time for something new, I think.

Would you like a CD? I'm supposed to be making several anyway, and I'd be happy to make you one as well! I could do a sampler of stuff I listen to a lot...

Alternately, I'd be happy to put up some mp3s on YSI, if you don't have any objections to that.

_And_ I thought of two other things! One is that you might enjoy [livejournal.com profile] audiography, which is an amazing place to discover new music. The other is that you might like the band Attrition, which has some free downloads on their website (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/attrition-mp3/) -- my favourite is "A Girl Called Harmony". It's not direct sincere from-the-heart music, but complex heavily mixed things, and I always feel like I'm just on the verge of understanding a story. Plus I like that song in particular because it makes me think of Buffy & Angel, although I doubt those shows were in the minds of the band.
