Now I haven't read any of Ann Rice's more recent novels, but God, the woman has delusions of grandeur. We're not talking nobel prize material here, after all.
It is vaguely satisfying though, that apparently I wasn't too far off with my assesment, even without being aware of the exact reason for the decline in quality.

That's what I like about Stephen King. He know what he does, he knows his limitations, and he's not efraid to say so. I thought parts of "On writing" were short from brilliant. I didn't agree with all of it, of course, but at least the guy has some modesty and common sense, qualities that Mrs. Rice seems to have lost somewhere along the way.

Well, I guess she's rich enough to do whatever she wants as long as her publishers stand up for it, but... yes. embarrassing. And kind of sad, because on an entertainment level I rather liked her earlier novels.
