Right, I'm aware I have plenty of issues. A perfectionist streak among others. And not a lot of talent, as far as belly dancing is concerned, which, in combination, is a perpetual source of frustration (or would that be source of perpetual frustration?). I know this. But I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to expect to be taught things in class. When I asked her to show us transitions between moves last time, I did not mean that she'd show us one transition including a move we'd not done before and then tell us to each invent another transition ourselves. I guess it's all very well to invent your own style and moves when you've advanced to a certain level, but I really can see no point in fumbling about (not to mention that my brain went into a state of panicked blankness immediately) and then repeating others' equally fumbling movements.

At a guess there are correct or at least aesthetically pleasing ways to do this, and I'd really like to be taught them. What's the point of re-inventing the wheel?

And why am I able to do an Egyptian shimmy when I'm brushing my teeth, but not, or barely, in class?

Grr.
