I was like NONONONO! for the most part of this episode, and my biggest issue right now is definitely Arthur's characterization, which you've already articulated so well.

...where Arthur was actually portrayed as someone capable of insight and change...

Exactly. And he totally wasn't the complete moron that he was in 2x01 too. Someone on my flist mentioned that Arthur is also a man of evidence, who's very much capable of connecting the dots, and you can convince him once you have proof. That's not what happened in the episode, and the way he just blew up and cast aside Merlin's counsel for a total stranger is nothing short of disheartening.

This is NOT the Arthur Pendragon we've already seen throughout S1 and I hate it.
