Is it a sign that you're getting old & boring (really boring, since I very much doubt that I ever was anything else) when you're doing the hiking tours you hated when your parents dragged you on them on Sundays when you were a child and you'd much rather have stayed at home and read a book or in any case done something less athletic and pedagogic? It was nice though, sunny, warm afternoon, Vöslauerhütte and Hoher Lindkogel/Eisernes Tor, and the ruins of an old castle on my way back; and I really need to do this kind of thing more often because I'm really in embarrassingly bad shape. Also, note to self - maps. They tend to be kind of useful, even if it's only the Wienerwald and not the Alps. Would have saved me three quarters of an hour of following the wrong path (twice, even) and having to go back again (uphill).

Home again, tired & with aching feet, had dinner & a piece of Saturday's birthday cake, and then watched the new Merlin episode which I feel a bit meh about. Not that it isn't still awfully cute, but on the whole it seemed a bit repetitive; many scenes felt like I've seen them before. But - I guess - new season, first episode, possibly new viewers, needs to re-establish the premises & basic character traits; (hopefully) moving on now.

Mostly I'm getting a bit tired of Arthur again and again going back into total brat mode, when he's already shown himself to be a much better man (and friend). But maybe, since he is always either unconscious or unaware when Merlin saves his life [*] he thinks that Merlin doesn't actually like him and would rather be anywhere else than in his service, since he actually asks Merlin to think about whether he wants to be his servant when he could just have fired him? It's a bit confusing, though. And Merlin, who just wants Arthur to love him. Aww.

But the confrontation between Merlin and Segan was very nicely done, and I'm actually kind of looking forward to how the Arthur/Gwen storyline is going to develop.

And Colin Morgan still manages to look dorky and completely average one moment and really quite stunning the next, even if his face happens to be half covered with horse shit (lightling? hair? expression? I wonder..). Although someone should maybe feed the boy a sandwich, because those cheekbones are starting to look kind of scary from certain angles.


[*] Although I wouldn't be all that surprised either if Uther starts his witch-hunt again and Merlin manages to expose himself, Arthur is willing to protect him because it turns out he did in fact overhear the exchange in this episode with Merlin declaring his loyalties even when offered all the power (and revenge) he could want.
