Thanks, I'll look at the posts, and others you've linked to for other replies. It might come down to a difference of opinion regarding the "world" of Torchwood. That is, many of the pro and con arguments that I've seen regarding the treatment of Ianto and his sexual orientation suppose that Torchwood takes place in our world (except for the aliens *g*).
What led to my discontent was my supposition that Torchwood took place in a world even more different from ours in that, in addition to aliens, it accepted same-sex relationships. (It wasn't much of a stretch, I don't think, since Doctor Who seems to accept them just fine when the subject comes up! Remember, for example, in "Daleks in Manhattan" when the Doctor says, "Yeah well you can kiss me later. You too Frank if you want.") Hence my sadness when CoE showed me I was wrong. :-(
